Incomplete upgrade.
Review:
This upgrade comes from a different source than the old previously circulated
cassette recording. Easily identifiable via the variance
of audience comments between songs.
Despite the noticeable improved sound quality, unfortunately this recording is incomplete. The beginning of 'Where Are You' has been clipped. The original recording included Keith's whole 'Lou Reed Part 1' intro, it now starts just before John's vocal kicks in. 'Death Disco' misses the first verse or so; and the recording has a much more abrupt ending to 'Under the House' than before.
It's decent quality for an audience recording of the time, certainly an improvement on the original. Maybe slightly distorted, and a bit boomy. The actual mix from the show might effect this, as it seems to sway slightly, and John does complain about the monitors (surely not!).
There is an irritating dull thump throughout the recording, which possibly comes from the drum pedal, or possibly a vibration through the cassette recorder. There is also a little tape hiss.
As you'd expect there is the usual mixture of banter and antagonism between John and the crowd. A few choice comments but nothing too conformational, and everyone appears to enjoy themselves. 'Bad 'Baby' includes some unusual erie synth parts which work well, and the band are on good form throughout.
A good solid 1982 live performance. Pity it is incomplete…
